Diving in to Week 3 in New England: triple play starts with URI District Event

Updated: Mar 21

Just three weeks before the New England District Championship, teams at the URI District Event met a special guest, one who happens to be a namesake of one of our 2025 DCMP divisions!

We were incredibly thankful to hear from Dr. Robert Ballard, a professor of oceanography at URI noted for his work in underwater archaeology and marine geology and exploration. Perfect for FIRST DIVE, URI's Graduate School of Oceanography is one of the world's premier academic institutions of oceanography and ocean exploration!

The University of Rhode Island hosted our second URI District Event with 37 teams from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Connecticut.

This year's FRC game, REEFSCAPE, highlights real efforts made by divers and roboticists to strength our oceans' coral reefs!

Special thanks to Commanding Officer of NUWC Newport Division, Captain Chad Hennings, and President of URI Mark Parlange for joining us Friday morning to welcome all teams to the competition!
