From RE:PLAY to REBUILT: Celebrating Every Ability at Pine Tree

The 9th annual Pine Tree District looked familiar, yet distinct from Pine Trees of the past! We returned to last year's new venue, Falmouth High School, to host the only FRC qualifier in Maine, where tradition holds that the event will be called Pine Tree.
Featuring almost all of the Maine teams, as well as some visitors from New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut, this event was fortunate to be locally sponsored by the Maine Army National Guard and the Maine Space Consortium. The U.S. Air Force 319th Recruiting Squadron was also in attendance, and will be joining us at other events throughout the season!
Teams heard from Giovanna Guidoboni, PhD, Dean of the Maine College of Engineering and Computing from University of Maine Orono, to wish them luck throughout the weekend.
The event also featured Unified Robotics, inspiring students of all abilities to break down barriers through the exciting sport of robotics. Working together in a FIRST LEGO League environment with the RE:PLAY game, Unified teams were cheered on and celebrated!
The high score in qualification rounds almost broke 500: two teams that would eventually square off in the finals scored 487 together in Match 28. Match 1 of the playoffs saw 537 points, but we didn't get that high again until an impressive Finals 2: 523 to 418.
In just a few days, we'll be on to week 2! With 3 events in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, 110 teams will be competing live starting Saturday morning.
