Louis is a dedicated STEM educator and longtime advocate for youth robotics. Starting in 2012 as an FLL coach and tournament director in SC, he soon became the state’s Program Delivery Partner and led a nonprofit supporting robotics education across the region. He has worn many hats in the FIRST ecosystem: mentor, volunteer, planning committee member, Compass Award–winning coach, and founder of a state champion FTC team. After 13 years as a physics and astronomy professor, he relocated to Las Vegas, where he now serves as the Team Development & Education Specialist for FIRST Nevada, helping schools and communities launch and sustain impactful FIRST programs through the state, in addition to being the FLL PDP.

Building the Future One LEGO Brick at a Time: A Guide to Coaching FIRST LEGO League Challenge
Curious about what happens in FIRST LEGO League Challenge before students make the leap to FTC or FRC? This session is designed for experienced mentors looking to branch out into coaching younger students in a way that’s fun, rewarding, and aligned with the FIRST Core Values. You'll get a hands-on introduction to FLL Challenge, exploring everything from robot design and missions to the Innovation Project and Core Values. Whether you're thinking of starting a team, mentoring one at your local school, or just want to understand the FIRST family of programs better, this session will equip you with practical strategies, coaching insights, and activity ideas to bring FLL to life. Bonus: you’ll get to play with LEGO bricks (professionally, of course).
